![]() ![]() ![]() The title which most recently inspired this action was Kristin Kimball's " The Dirty Life," a story not all too different from our own, with a resolution not all too different from what we want for ourselves: a sustainable farm, family and life. And what better way to do so than with a good book? In the spirit of that, and of what will probably be an literature-rich winter for us, we've decided to occasionally post a book review (or really, a recommendation) when a book moves us. With the fall approaching, bringing with it shorter and shorter days, the farmer is typically left to their own devices left to find ways to somehow farm in the dark. We read a great deal of books then spend a subsequent great deal of time talking about them, but just recently realized we often neglect to really mention them on the blog. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() OL17613239W Page-progression lr Page_number_confidence 87.16 Pages 298 Ppi 514 Related-external-id urn:isbn:0066620732 Urn:lcp:justforfun00linu:epub:fd757c73-3cb1-4f15-bb6e-0fe814b98134 Extramarc University of Toronto Foldoutcount 0 Identifier justforfun00linu Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t5z61hx32 Isbn 0066620724 Lccn 00054199 Ocr tesseract 4.1.1 Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_module_version 0.0.5 Ocr_parameters -l eng Openlibrary OL7293503M Openlibrary_edition ![]() Access-restricted-item true Addeddate 15:17:51 Boxid IA140622 Boxid_2 CH104201 Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II City New York, NY Donorīostonpubliclibrary Edition 1st ed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Although he passed away in 1990, his popularity continues to increase as his fantastic novels, including James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delight an ever-growing legion of fans. Roald Dahl is now considered one of the most beloved storytellers of our time. As a result, he spent five months in a Royal Navy hospital in Alexandria. He made a forced landing in the Libyan Desert and was severely injured. His first stories were written as entertainment for his own children, to whom many of his books are dedicated. He served as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force during World War II. His first short story, which recounted his adventures in the war, was bought by The Saturday Evening Post, and so began a long and illustrious career.Īfter establishing himself as a writer for adults, Roald Dahl began writing children’s stories in 1960 while living in England with his family. Yes, the subtitle lives up to its name, but what makes this biography exceptional is Lahr’s talent in weaving William’s life–including his sex life–into his writing. (A few of the chapter titles don’t do much to dissuade that assumption: “Blood-Hot and Personal,” “The Heart Can’t Wait,” “The Erotics of Absence.”) But thank goodness John Lahr is no Kitty Kelly. Has there ever been a more erotic subtitle to a mainstream biography than Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh (Norton)? If I didn’t know the respected former New Yorker theater critic John Lahr was the author (he’s written ten theatrical biographies, including those of Noel Coward and Joe Orton), I might very well have expected a rollicking narrative of the Kitty Kelly variety, with sordid descriptions of one sexual dalliance after another. ![]() ‘Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh’ by John Lahr ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lewis George Orwell Mary Pope Osborne LeUyen Pham Dav Pilkey Roger Priddy Rick Riordan J. Back when paperbacks were that cheap! She did buy me hardcovers for my birthday or Christmas, so I have a few hardcovers among my mostly paperback collection that spans almost an entire bookshelf.) I remember waiting eagerly for each new volume to come out, but since my mom couldn’t fathom paying $20+ for each book, she forced me to wait until the paperbacks came out for $6. Yes, there are a gazillion of these books and the later series aren’t quite as good as the first two ( Warriors and Warriors: The New Prophecy), but I love these books with all my heart.
